The Artist

This is my entry into the Calypso Moon Artist Challenge, called Painting History. Our assignment was to paint, with people, a moment in "history" that we found. It could not be staged, but rather, a snapshot of a moment in time - so to speak. This is also my addition to Margaret Bednar's challenge In The Moment - with the theme for this month as "color." I love the way the colors in this exist all over.

This past September I attended an Art/Craft show at a local historial site. The various artists & craftsman were set up about the grounds of the building, in what I would call a "park-like" setting. Trees & dappled shade were everywhere, and everyone was commenting on how wonderful the weather was! Blue skies, sun & temperatures not too hot -- all made for a perfect day.

After I had wandered about the grounds and eyed all the beautiful items for sale, and having spoken to numerous artists about their techniques, I decided to grab my iPhone and capture a few "moments in time." I am so glad I did that, as I've been able to do 2 paintings (so far) from that day. (The other painting from that day can be seen here.)

This particular woman was busy with her paintings, as she sat along side her table of items. With all the "hub-bub" around her, she didn't look up - just stayed true to her work & locked in her moment (her husband was manning the table of items).  And as I looked at her I thought to myself "how wonderful, to be able to do something you love, basically anywhere - without being self-conscious, timid or shy." Now that I've painted her, I think I'll use this image as one of my "visions" - as a visual goal to be reached for & achieved.

Vous avez réussi à la perfection ces deux toiles. Tout comme l'artiste sur cette dernière vous étiez entrée dans votre univers et vous vous sentiez bien. Vous avez réussi à reproduire ce sentiment de bien-être dans ces peintures. Toutes vos couleurs dansent bien ensemble.

There are so many wonderful elements in this painting. I love the sun on the grass and the vivid colors in the paintings. The painter does look quite intense; I think her back is going to ache.

I love the pops of color all over. Spontaneous and wonderfully rendered. Her poor back (looks like mine when I paint)

Thanks all. I have to laugh, many of you picked up on her back & position! I happened to have caught her as she was looking around her canvas at the historical house she was painting. I guess I could have straightened her out a bit but I liked the way she kept looking around the canvas to see her subject. Haven't we all stretched a bit too much or gotten a kink in our neck from sitting & painting too long!

This painting makes me feel like I want to stand there too and see how she's painting the scene. Nice pop of color at her booth. The shadow on the ground suggests a cool breezing feeling under in the shade. Very nicely done!
