Pearls

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This was done some time ago for a challenge (sorry, I don't remember which at this moment). It was to combine a foreground still life with a background landscape. It may seem an odd combination, but I think the colors help to pull this together. Also, I painted in the "shapes" style - meaning, shapes of color left to the viewers eye to combine. I think it's an interesting combination - object wise and color wise as well!

One of the Flock?

Acrylic on 6x12 canvas sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This is my painting for "The Traveling Chicken" challenge, a unique challenge where a small yellow ceramic chicken (pictured centered) is mailed from one artist to the next. Each artist creates a painting or drawing with the chicken! Then she must find another artist to pass the chicken, & the challenge, on to!

Karla Uphoff of Karlasplace blog contacted me and asked if I'd be interested in participating. She had gotten the chicken (& the challenge) from her art friend Azra, who lives across the pond in the UK. Azra started the challenge when she purchased the little ceramic chicken & did the first painting. I've given links to their respective blogs, and their renditions of the little chick. But be sure to checkout both of their blogs & work, both have wonderful art pieces on their blogs - many of them are for sale!

As far as my painting goes, the only inspiration I can say I had was the recent Easter holiday. And I just couldn't resist adding additional chicks - and they are all trying to figure out who this unique chick is! I can just picture the flock of chicks all asking "who is this & are they one of us?!"

I am not sure who I should contact to see if they would like to continue the challenge. I do ask any of you who read my blog, please reply if you are interested and I will make arrangements with you to send it.

UPDATE! - our little chicken is traveling next to California! Jill Polsby has agreed to take on the challenge of The Traveling Chicken next. Jill & I became friends when we worked on the Sketchbook Project together. She has a wonderful wit & is so talented with her art - check out her blog, you won't be disappointed!

With the sun you'll see a rainbow - SOLD

Update May 2014
I have a high-quality canvas print available of this painting.
Measures 12 x 12 with gallery edges in solid black.
It looks fantastic - in fact, it looks like the original!
I intend to do only a few prints of this piece, so it will be numbered & signed.
Please email me if interested in purchasing a print.

This is a painting I have done for The Artists Challenge website, and the 2011 CBS Sun Art Challenge. This challenge is for Sun Paintings for the gallery. The CBS Sunday Morning television show is known for using art for the closing segment of their show, and the gallery of art is shipped to them to select from. There is no guarantee that your image, when submitted, will be chosen or used. The Artists group have counted (so far) 11 instances of images used from their gallery in the past! But to be honest, I'm just proud to have created this painting and submitted it to the challenge. You don't know how many times I said "nope, not good enough" or "this won't work out." But I kept at it.

Imagination, what a wonderful thing. I love when the sun breaks out after a heavy rain and you can look into the sky & see the rainbow. That beautiful prism of color within the air that seems to simply float. That's where I got the idea for this painting, and also for the title.

This is 12 x 12 acrylics on gallery wrapped canvas - edges are painted too. And this photo does not show that an iridescent gold was used in the face of the sun.
