Snowball Bush

"Snowball Bush"
Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

I am tired of this winter, so I'm going to ignore the freezing temperatures and snow. Instead, I cam going to concentrate of some of my favorite spring & summer things. And these Hydrangea flowers are just perfect for that.

This was called the snowball bush by my grandparents, and the name stays with me still today. I remember my grandfather would pick them & bring them in the house, after shaking them to remove any insects that might try to hitch a ride. I always loved them, so big & full, and they had such a variety of colors. Some blue, some more red, and some were all white. He would gather a variety and then let me carry the bouquet in to my grandmother, who would put them in a glass vase with water. Then, in the center of the table they would stand, and you couldn't help but notice them every time you walked past.

This particular bunch that I painted is from my neighbor's yard. He planted these a couple of years ago & the color within them is outstanding!
