Door & Sign

"Door & Sign"
6 x 12 acrylic on canvas panel
Available through DPW gallery/auction

I have been collecting images I have found, photos & google, of doors & windows. I have become fascinated with entry doors and have been meaning to start a series of these.

This is the first one from the group. A doorway I found while touring Iceland for the VPO a couple of months ago. I find corner doors quite fascinating, and this one with it's shadows, angular lines & the street sign all worked together. I chose the 6x12 format because it worked best with this composition.

I feel that front doors make a statement about the resident within. Whether they are blank & unadorned, or fully dressed & colorful, they represent the person who calls that place home. So capturing these is a little like doing a portrait!

There will be more of these doorways, and some windows also, throughout the course of the next few days (weeks?).

I also love entryways; always something so cool looking about them. I should dig through my own photos. I know I've taken photos of quite a few doors over the years. This is lovely and I'm not sure what gives it away that it is not in the US...the style of the building itself? The door? Or is it the non-US road sigh? Don't know but it is a wonderful painting.
