Meet me at Macy's - SOLD

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet,
mounted on 1/8" flat hardboard
Available through DPW gallery/auction

Walking east on 34th Street you will find the well-known department store, Macy's, with the Empire State Building in the background. Macy's Herald Square, as it is known, is their flagship store - built in 1901. It is well known for the Macy's Day Parade, but also for it's Holiday window decorations, Santa visits and also for it's Spring flower show. The building itself is on the National Registry of Historic Buildings, and it is a common stop for visitors to the city.

Also a famous stop is the Empire State Building, which is seen in the background on 34th street. The tallest building in NYC (it lost that title to the World Trade Center towers when they were built, and it is about to lose the title again to the new Freedom Tower that is being built). The views at the top of the Empire State Building are wonderful, with buildings, rivers, traffic and countless lights. It literally gives a birds-eye view of the whole city.

My first thought was of the movie "Miracle on 34th Street." Love the sense of history to this piece, Nancie. I think the Empire State Building first lost its tallest building title to the Sears Tower in Chicago, yes? Either way, it is one gorgeous building and one I wish I could see in person. Maybe some day.

You're right Sherry, about the Sears Tower. I should have spoke about NYC. Tallest in NYuntil the twin towers were built. After they were gone, the Empire State was tallest in NY again but is being passed by the new Freedom Tower.
