The Walkway

Acrylic on 9x12 linen sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This was done for this months VPO journey through Jerusalem, and the original link can be seen here. I don't have to tell you what a wonderful area of the world this is to "wander" through - I don't think the Google maps does it justice. The architecture, the history, the countless areas to see & look at -- I found myself wandering just to see and I almost forgot to take my screen captures for the paintings!

This is acrylic paint, done mostly as a wash - even lifted off with tissues in some areas. I wanted the entire scene to appear "light" -- and added a bit more color, such as the lavender in the distant buildings, and the additional color on the distant people. The left wall is a combination of unlbleached titanium along with streaks of umber and yellow oche. The right wall has the terracotta mixed with the same unbleached titanium. The ground & shadows utilize blues mixed with parchment. These are some of my favorite colors to blend with! All the lines added for texture were done with a black ink.

Because of my recent 'art funk' that I've been in, this painting took much longer to finish - well over a week. And I was unhappy with it more times than I can count. There were a few days I became so frustrated with it, that the paints & brushes were put away as I declared "that's it, I'm done!" But I always came back to it and kept at it, and finally tonight I am calling it "finished."
