House Finch

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

Lee at A Day Not Wasted website posted a photo he had taken of his backyard feeder, and this little House Finch feeding. It's an adorable little photo - Lee always takes wonderful photos - and he often posts with an invite to paint. This particular one, although not his monthly challenge painting, was something he offered recently.

I have a feeder in the yard and have numerous finches feeding at it all day. Along with cardinals, blue jays, morning doves and an occasional chickadee. They have all come to expect the feed, especially in the winter, and they watch us as we go out to fill it in the morning. They gather on the tree branches overhead in the Dogwood tree, watching, & waiting, for the seed to fill the tubes and for us to go inside. Turn around while you are walking back to the door and you'll already see the bravest ones venturing onto the perches.

I so love that you feed the birds in the winter, Nancie. Food is so much harder to find for the birds that stay around through the winter. I know they get hungry because a neighbor used to feed them too and they would always eat up the seed she scattered, and very quickly too. Love this painting. The bird is stunning!
