Tokyo - Feels like Home --- SOLD!

I am submitting this to the DPW Challenge - The Help Japan Challenge. The image is from Google maps, the link to the original is here. All artwork submitted in this challenge is up for auction, all proceeds going to help the people of Japan. The theme for the challenge is "home."

I chose to do a scene from Tokyo, rather than my homeland and I'll explain the reason. Friends of mine have a son who is currently living, and working, in Tokyo. He has been there for awhile teaching English. And for as long as I've known him, he has always loved Japan. Long before he visited, he had a fascination for it - even at the age of 5. He has studied Japanese most of his life & is fluent in the language. When he had the chance to take a short leave from college to go to Japan and teach English, he jumped at the opportunity.

After the disaster struck, his mother spent much time communicating with him through the internet. And each of us tried to convince him he needed to leave, to return to the US, just to be safe. After much deliberation, he has chosen to stay. His mother told me he felt "that these are my friends here, and to leave now, he would feel like he was deserting them." "This feels like home," he said, "and so I've chosen to stay & help."

The name of this piece came from his words. Thank you Zach, for reminding me of the tenacity of youth and the integrity of friendship.

My thoughts & prayers go out to all who are there. I will be donating to the American Red Cross Japan Disaster Relief Fund.

Beautiful painting and what a wonderful cause. I bet you are very proud of your friend's son. Even though the thing you both may want most is for him to be here, home is always where the heart is.

Hopped on over here after seeing your work on DPW. I just had to say your wonderful son is a product of awesome parenting.

Nancie, before I read your complete post, I went to the Google scene. I saw so many familiar names in the street ads that I thought this was the source of your paintings name. After reading your post I felt doubly the kinship we have as a global community. Your painting is amazing.

What is the link for the auction site? I can't seem to find it; has there been an ebay listing created?

Thank you everyone for your kind words, very much appreciated. This painting was definitely painted from the heart!

Linda - it's not through eBay, it's actually done through the Daily Paintworks blog site. if you use the link that's in my copy, it'll take you to the Daily Paintworks website, and the Help Japan Challenge. It's interesting how they set this up. Near the top is a link you can click says "Submit to the Challenge" It gives you a form to fill in, and you include your base price, and any data you want to add for the listing. Then you upload your image. (they do a review before it's uploaded to the site, so may take a bit. Mine took all of 15 minutes, and I got an email that it was online)

If you scroll down to the bottom of the main page, you'll see all the art. Click on any one of them and a window will open, showing the image larger, giving you the info. There is a "Buy this Painting" click that will take you to where you can set up to put your bid on the image.

When you submit your work, you can specify how you will accept payment (Paypal or check), where you will ship to (US or International), and what shipping charges are. I believe all the auctions are for 7 days from when you submit.
