The 3 Pitchers

This months Rookie Painter has us handling a still life of pitchers. The original photo reference has the 3 pitchers in a horizontal line which was interesting, but I thought I'd combine them into a tighter group. I also changed the size of them to create a balance in the composition. The entire time I painted this, I kept referring to it as "The 3 Pitchers - Papa pitcher, Mama pitcher and Baby pitcher! Loved the reflections within the table surface and the highlights on the pitchers themselves. Just a fun little painting that I enjoyed doing.

On a different note I'm pleased to say that Sara has accepted one of my pieces of art for her "Love From Me" book project. Artists from around the world have donated a piece of their work as a source of inspiration and strength for those suffering from cancer (or other life altering challenges). What is even more exciting is that, although Sara liked the painting I submitted (Flower and Butterfly) she found something on my blog that she asked to use instead. I had no problem with the change, and sent her the necessary information & data.

Lemons with Flower was a painting I did for the Rookie Painter challenge back in October. It was a painting that was full of lines & shapes, and by doing my "shapes painting" with it, I really enhanced them. Here is the image again.

I needed to write my inspiration for the painting, and other than it being a challenge, I wrote about my personal connection to it:

Pamela always said that green was "the healing color" - so the green is in there for her. Peg always said that during her treatments, that the color yellow would pick up her spirtis - so the yellow is in there for her. And the red is there, because, quite frankly, who wouldn't smile from the sight of a bright, red flower. Add a little sunshine and the scene is complete!
My cousin Pamela lost her battle with breast cancer 6 years ago after battling it for 5 years and I miss her. My friend Peg has won her battle and I get to talk with her often. The yin and yang of life I suppose. I hope that this book offers comfort, inspiration & strength to those who are waging their own war against this terrible disease and I'm very proud to be a part of it.

I like your pitchers very much and how you write about the composition of the challenge photo. I learn so much every day from my blog friends.
The second part of your post is so deep and true. So human.

I like how you changed the arrangement and sizes of the creamers to make them more interesting. I also started to play with the sizes as well. We did a very nice job!

I love the changes you made to the actual composition Nancie, making it an interesting piece altogether. The colors of the pitchers against each other are more prominent and adding a good contrast.
As this piece got selected for a good cause, you have a reason to be proud and honored.Congrats!
