Winter Stream - SOLD

This is what I guess you would call a re-post. This painting is one of my favorite snow scenes I did some time ago and I just sent it in as my submission for the January challenge at Artist Helping Artist. The January images are not posted yet, but with Saturday the 15th being the deadline, I think they will be posted soon. I also posted this for the "In The Moment" challenge, with this months word being "unsullied" - immaculate, pristine, pure, unpolluted, elegant. I think this image fits with all the words and descriptions for unsullied.

This January (and it's not quite 1/2 done) has been one snow storm after another here in the Northeast. And as I thought about January and how I wanted to depict it for the challenge, snow was the only thing I could think of! After all, it's what I see when I walk out my door!

This painting was done with only 4 colors and is 1 of a pair of paintings that I did this way. You can see the original post with both paintings here. Paynes Gray, Titanium White, Indanthrene Blue and just a touch of Burnt Umber in the bridge. As I said, it is one of my favorites - and it is framed and on the wall in my home. (both winter paintings are hung as a pair). I enjoyed the added challenge of painting with a limited palette - and I think it gives the scene the wintry look that I wanted to achieve, not to mention unsullied!

Acrylic on canvas, 9x12

Très jolie scène d'hiver et surtout très bien réalisée. Il n'est pas simple de peindre la neige. Malgré que je n'aime pas l'hiver avec sa neige et surtout son froid! je dois reconnaître que c'est un spectacle de sérénité.

Nancie, this is stunningly beautiful. It would be framed and on the wall here too.

Brrrrr! You did a wonderful job making the scene look very cold! Well done!

Both paintings are beautiful, Nancie! Really great job with so few colors on your palette.

I paint with a limited palette myself, because that's how I was taught. White, two yellows, two reds, two blues, with ochre, burnt sienna, and burnt umber. My new teacher remarked on it. I think I'm the only one in the class with so little paint on my palette. She said it's a good way to learn to mix colors.

I will have to try this limited palette - your work is stunning! I have missed painting & drawing lately. The holiday season (Nov - Dec) was a whirlwind for me and one of my daughters is recovering from an appendectomy and now 4 days of "snow days" from school! Next week I'm hitting the art desk and ordering pizza for dinner! :) Your glasses below are wonderful! I am going to go now and enjoy your blog! Thanks for participating in the challenge.
