Pearls

I'm afraid my titles are not very creative, and I read one writer's blog that listed the top 5 no-no's of blogging. And giving art a so-so title was on the list! I will need to work on that this new year!

This is my rendition for the Paint and Draw Together challenge. This was an interesting photo reference, with the pearls and shell in the foreground & yet, there is a landscape background - giving a bit of depth to the image.

I did the "shapes" painting on this, and I cropped in much closer to the foreground image - even cropping off some of the shell to get a composition I liked. It may not show as much depth as the full image, but I think it gives the impression well enough.

Love doing the pearls and giving them that porcelain look. After all, nothing is totally white. They reflect the color & light around them, which are the blue's and reds (oranges?). I thought of blending the sky more, and actually did do it in small areas. But I rather like the large shapes in the background - gives it a unique look. All in all, a fun painting. (And this one I got done before the deadline!! Yea!)

Really nice, Nancie. I always like your paintings the best. The sky is beautiful in this, and I love the way you cropped it. Very original, if not the title. Carol Marine always has the cutest titles.

Le travail de vos perles est très bien réalisé. Elle prennent parfaitement bien la lumière et elles sont bien irisées... très précieuses aussi dans cet écrin naturel.

Your pearls glow, they are beautifully done, and the sky is a perfect compliment. Your style really turned this image into a lovely painting.

"Pearls Before Swine" instantly popped into my head when I saw your title. What a lovely painting, Nancie!! That colors on the inside of that shell and in the pearls themselves is absolutely amazing and so well done. Love the background for this one too; it is kind of diametrically opposed to the pearls from the sea.

This was my favorite of all of the pearl and shell entries. Nice contrasts and light.
