Bouquet - SOLD

I really cut this one close to the deadline - only about 1 hour to go! December is always a tough month to get projects done, because of the demands of the holidays. But I did get this painted for the December challenge for Studio Atelier. Even with the few days extension Barb gave us, I still was late!

The original photo is a full bouquet of flowers in a water filled glass vase - but I knew I would never get that much painting done. So I chose to crop in on the flowers - and I wanted those reds to jump out for attention. I think they do - and there is the magic number of 3 red flowers, surrounded by assorted yellows & greens. I chose to do the "shapes" painting style, which I find works very well with flowers. It gives them just enough realism, but also abstracts things a bit. I'm pretty happy with how this one turned out, and hopefully it will make it onto the website. I see Barb has already posted the next months challenge so I'll need to get busy - at least January is not such a hectic month (provided we don't get any more blizzards in the Northeast!!)

This is excellent. Good idea to crop the bouquet and I like the way you handled the greens in merrigolds, the sharp contrast, etc. You should've done like me and submitted your work before you were 100% done!
