Ocean Spray

This is a abstract done for this months Wet Canvas Acrylic challenge. These challenges have a "reveal" date, and if you head over to the link now, you won't see the artists work. They will be posted on the 20th of this month, but I decided to add mine to my blog ahead of time.

The photo reference is a complex image with surf, sand and rocks - with a large spray from the water. I loved the spray, but also decided not to attempt a realism approach. Instead, with the help of the shapes, I painted an abstract interpretation. I find this rather interesting to stare at, and although it doesn't resemble the ocean surf & spray directly, I think it gives an indication of it. I also think it gives the impression of motion.

What do you think? I love to hear peoples interpretations of abstracts - they are all so different & unique.

Nancie, I'm not a huge fan of abstracts but I can definitely see the ocean spray, the rocks in this piece. It brings the excitement of the tempestuous seas!

Love abstracts and this is lovely, for me it seems to be an never ending rise of emotions from with in,intense and heartfelt.

Thank you both for commenting. I try to mix my style up a bit once in a while and go more abstract than real in the rendering. It does go to show that not every painting style is everyone's cup of tea though. Some are ok with abstract while others love it. Variety is the spice of life - isn't that how the saying goes? Again, thanks for taking the time to comment on this piece!

There's a lot of detailing in this piece, especially in the waves. I love the brown and red accents against my favorite colors of blue. Very oceany, yet not too oceany. Whatever that means. But I love it!
