I found the Calypso Moon Artist blog this month and decided to join in the challenge. The subject this month was The Secret Garden. Somewhere I go to replenish my soul, that is a place I retreat to. A sanctuary.
Although flowers were acceptable, and I do love to garden - planting flowers in containers and within the yard - I found that I go off into the woods when I want to re-energize. There is something about being surrounded by trees and greenery that just rejuvenates me.
For that reason, I chose to paint the tree trunks with ferns. These are a very common sight in the forests I walk through in upstate NY, and I love that "alone" feeling within the woods. But I'm never really alone, not with birds & bugs, trees & plants - it is actually quite alive. It's what brings me back to earth and grounds me.
And if you are very, very quiet - you may even catch a glimpse of an elf or two!

So very beautiful, Nancie! I too love the forests and walking through them, taking them in, breathing them in. There is such a transcendent peace in this oh so special secret garden. Love the painting; many of the forest preserve areas here look similar.
La forêt nous régénère et elle nous est nécessaire... belle peinture.
What a lovely painting you have done. Thank you for visiting my blog.
:-)
Lovely painting. It's a familiar landscape for me, in summer, at the Lake of The Woods.
i can smell the earthy ferns and the forest! Wonderful
This is lovely. I just got back from Northern California - where I drove and walked among scenes that looked lots like this. You have wonderful textures in this.
Thank you all for your wonderful comments, they are very much appreciated!
Nancie, your ferns next to the bark are so appealing to me. I really like all the texture you created in this painting. Nice relaxing colors. I'll try to be extremely quiet the next time I go to a forrest.
