Heart of the Poppy - SOLD

I just submitted this to an online art contest and I realized I had not posted this before. This is one of my favorites that I had painted last year. It's a close up of the poppy plant, specifically the inner corn of the flower - it's heart. I always like the contrast between the red/orange petals and the blue/purple inner cone. The petals in this painting were done with multiples of washes - red over orange, and then orange over the red. I used multiple shades of reds & oranges, trying to build a bit of depth to the petal.

These flowers always amaze me when I see them, especially if there is a large group of them. Their color is so striking.

So cool, Nancie. I can see it is a flower, but if I look anew, it also looks like walls of flames and a burned out ash spot in the center. Beautiful!

Thank you all, I so appreciate your comments. I loved the color also, and yes, Sherry, it does look like a wall of flames!
