Hydranga

One of my favorite flowers (ok, let's face it, all flowers seem to be one of my favorites). I recall the white version of these at my grandparents house. My grandfather would go out to the "snowball bush" and cut a group to bring in. But not before he shook them out completely (to get rid of any unwanted pests!) These dark blue/purple variety were in my neighbors yard - a new plant he had gotten to fill in on his border. My first attempt at painting them was too rigid, and the flowers just looked like blah shapes. I tossed that one and started fresh, and did a "painterly" version - trying to capture the spirit of the flower. I prefer this version much better.

Gorgeous colors, Nancie! Hydrangeas are my second favorites, lilacs only edging them out because of their scent. I love the colors that come out as hydrangeas dry...Beautiful! Love those deep greens of the leaves too.

Thank you Sherry. Glad you enjoyed this one. And I agree, lilacs are wonderful & I love their scent. I have a lilac tree in the yard, and when it goes into bloom I can smell them throughout the yard. I haven't painted them yet, but do plan to one of these day. Perhaps this year! Thanks again.

This is beautiful Nancie. You used such a nice variety of greens and the purples and blues in the flowers make them look iridescent just like the real flowers do. I love it.
