Straight & Narrow

"Straight & Narrow"
9x12 acrylic on canvas
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This is another painting done for the private friend's challenge. Hal, the photo owner, said he was tired of the greens of summer and wanted to start looking at fall. I think Autumn is one of the best seasons to paint - color everywhere here in the NorthEast!!

I held this painting for a few days, trying to decide whether to keep it as is & post it, or did I want to change it. More shadows? More highlights?

But when I took the image into Photoshop to alter things (I do this often when I'm trying to figure out what I want to changed), no matter what I tried, I did not like it. After playing for a few days, I decided to leave it alone. Stop gilding the lily - which is an expression said to me from the friends when I asked what they thought. Such an expression - when I searched for it's origin, I found conflicting facts. It's either Civil war era, or Shakespeare!

And where did the title for this come from? It's what I kept saying, over & over to myself, while I painted this. The straight & narrow path......

My favorite season captured beautifully! I wasn't sure if I was looking at a stream or a path as it is so light on my screen...looked almost like a reflective surface. Still, gorgeous!
