I finally finished a larger painting! This is an old barn that I've been meaning to paint for quite some time. And 16x20 use to be my favorite size for painting. But once I go into the daily painting routine, the larger size did not work. It feels great to go back to this size for a painting again. Almost like visiting an old friend!
But I had forgotten how to work larger! Larger brushes, bolder strokes, less details - oh, how I struggled at first. And I almost shelved this saying "not working" - but I kept at it. This morning I noticed it was starting to look "better" - and I started working it with the final look in mind (instead of the what-is-wrong-with-this look). I might tweak it more - little light here, little shadow there - but I've stepped away and put down the brushes. A sign I am basically happy with it. My husband just looked at it & asked if the barn is suppose to be listing to one side - hence the name on this! (the answer is yes)
This may go into the Oct art show (probably will), but I have to put it together with the rest of my work. I figure I will paint, paint, paint until a week or so before -- then decide what goes in & what stays out. Until then, email me if you are interested in any of my current new work, as I am not putting them up for auction until after the show.

Oh how beautiful!! I thought that this was one of the many really old barns I see here in IL that seem to just have their underpinnings give out. They sit in a heap with the top part intact just like this one. I always feel so sad for them! Love how you carried the reds into the distant hills. Really a gorgeous piece, Nancie!
