What is a canvas sheet?
A canvas sheet is a primed, quality piece of canvas - the same as seen on stretched canvas's. However, as a sheet, it is unmounted - which means no board behind. It is simply a flexible piece of canvas, cut to size (mine are all 9x12), that are sealed for protection.
What does this offer?
Besides reduced cost to the artist, which translates into reduced cost to the buyer, the artwork can be matted & framed similar as watercolor. However, since my paintings are acrylic, they should not be framed with glass.
Lately I have been matting & framing my pieces for shows, and I have to say, I actually prefer this look for the artwork rather than mounted on hardboard that's just put inside a frame.
Here are a few recent examples:
A Round Porch, 9x12, simple black frame
The same piece, double matted with a simple black frame
Overall size w/frame is 12x16
The Grotto, 9x12, simple black frame
The Grotto, double matted w/black frame
Overal size 12x16
I really believe the mat with the frame helps to finish the painting off nicely and would now look great hanging on any wall.
