Commissioned Piece - NFS
9 x 12 Acrylic on canvas panel
This is a commissioned Home Portrait - 1 of 2 that I need to get done. I've gotten behind on things a bit, so these 2 are "hot"!
I really like the shadows in this - it is something I have been working on for some time now. My early shadows were done as a dark-gray wash over an object. I then moved into a dark, dark purple shadow -- which works fine in some instances. But not in all.
With this painting, the shadows in all areas are simply a darker mix of the same color of the base. Meaning I mixed a light & a dark version of every color, so I could layer them to show the light & shadow. This works much better, I think. For instance, on the house, the tree shadows. And also on the walkway and on the lawn.
I also did my 3 tiers - background, mid ground & foreground - it actually appears that the viewer is standing alongside some dark green trees, looking up the walkway to the house. I think it makes it very inviting - sort of saying "come on in."
Ok, on to the 2nd home portrait. After that, I need to paint "Bugsy" - the maine coon cat winner of my pet portrait giveaway! Can't wait to do this feline - what a great face!

Oh, this is fabulous, Nancie! The framing by the trees and the shadows bring this over the top!
