House with Tulips

Commissioned Piece - NFS
9 x 12 Acrylic on canvas panel

I know I had said yesterday that the art I posted was the final tulip piece and actually this is a commissioned home portrait. However, the client asked that tulips be added to the gardens in the front, so I guess this is indeed another tulip piece!

A lovely, stately home with stone front, slate walkway and wonderful trees surrounding it. The photos sent to me to work from were winter - snow & ice everywhere (sounds so familiar lately). But the summer season is usually always preferred.

I find one of the most challenging aspects of doing a home portrait, is to decide where the shadows lie and where the sun highlights. In this case, one of the photos showed the light coming from behind & the house casting a shadow across the front lawn. I liked the look of the shadow outline on the vast lawn that I opted for that look in the painting. I think it balances the composition as well.
