"Venice Blues"
9x12 acrylic on canvas panel
This is my first submission for this months Virtual Paintout which is exploring Venice Italy. Click here to see the original link in Google. I absolutely love Venice - there is so much to see, so much to paint! I will be painting Venice long after the VPO changes location on January 1!
What struck me most in this scene was the range of intense colors (I made them more intense than they appear in the link). That blue just jumped out at me when I was roaming the scene and I just knew I had to paint it. I zoomed in to crop the image so that the door & 2 windows where dominant, then framed them with that lovely brick red. The balance to the image comes from the 3 blue elements and the 3 wood pilings, all offset from one another. (I realize there are actually 4 pilings, but the 1 that is leaning loses it's dominance & becomes part of the other). The base to the image & what grounds it, is that wonderful olive green/yellow ochre water with reflections & cast shadows.
This came out better than I envisioned - I just love when that happens!
