Holly

"Holly"
9x12 acrylic on canvas panel
Available through DPW gallery/auction

Previously painted in early 2011,
this painting is now on a 1-week auction at DPW
at a very affordable starting bid!

I tried to capture the waxy leaves of the holly, which tend to reflect a blue color back to the viewer. And those points - ouch! They will hurt if they get you. I think the red berries "pop" when seen with the complementary greens - and against that mottled, lilac background.

Fellow artist Sea Dean is having an Art Party on her blog. From Dec 1 through the 24th, she is inviting artists to post their holiday paintings - one each day! I've only been able to do 1 day so far, due to some family obligations, but intend to do at least a few more. I will post "Holly" on her site tomorrow. Head on over and take a look at the party!

This piece is super, Nancie. Quite honestly, I thought it was painted on parchment. Didn't realize that you'd painted that gorgeous background.
