Commissioned Piece - NFS

Another commissioned home painting done through the Library Project here in NJ. I would probably have named this "The Red Door" because it is what the eye first notices. Great eye-catcher and really lets the viewer know where to go to enter. 

One of the things I have to do with these commissioned pieces is to decide what to keep in and what to leave out. The homeowners, who are requesting the painting, are supplying images of their home for reference. I have also gone onto Google / Maps to locate the home where I can view it at different angles to understand it's location better. I have also driven past one of the homes for a closer look also (although I don't normally do this as the town is not so close that I can do this as a quick trip).

You'll notice that the entire front of the house is in shade - I chose to leave it in the light. There is also a tree at the street and a sidewalk - left those out too. And, there is a house next door, which should be noticeable in my painting. But why would anyone want to see the neighbors house? So I left it out & replaced it with trees & greens. Now the home is framed by the greens - much nicer, I think.

I have one more home to paint, for a different owner. The next home is a very different style - a ranch home! So it will be interesting to capture the lines of that long, low profile home.
