The Hedgerow

Acrylic on 30" x 24" stretched canvas
Email me if interested in this piece

This piece was done in 2009 while I was home recuperating from surgery. Working the details in this kept my mind off any pain or healing I had going on, so it was somewhat theraputic. I just loved all those leaves! And the red berries & purple-brown toned branches just added to the whole scene.

Here is a close up of a part of this piece:

As a part of Leslie Saeta's 30 Marketing days challenge, I am posting a couple of images I had taken of the work in progress. In response to her challenge, I will do another work in process photo session with a newer painting I am doing.

Step 1 shows the background sketch and the start of my adding in the elements. The branch group in this section is one of my favorite parts.

Step 2 shows how I continued to build out from the branches to fill in the canvas. At 30x24, I knew I had a great deal of work to be done on this. But I loved those leaves, and treated each leaf as it's own little painting.

This painting took a few weeks to finish, and there was quite a bit of time spent just mixing a green for here and a yellow or brown for there. I learned a great deal while I did this piece - mostly about mixing color. Cool vs. warm. And also, how a color can look different in one area than in another, all because of its neighboring ones.

This piece is a bit large (30x24), and has 1/2 inch gallery edges. The painting was carried around on all 4 sides. This could be hung as is, or it could be framed. It is an impressive piece and would terrific on any wall - it will command attention. It is for sale, but I'm asking those interested to please contact me via email.

Wow Nancie! As much as I love my couple of pieces that I have from you, I have to say this is a new favorite. I love leaves and with the berries, this is just so Christmas-y, one of my favorite times of the year. Really stunning and I can see all the hard work you put into this one! Wish I had a free wall and money! LOL
