The Atomic Gas Station

Acrylic on 10x14 stretched canvas
Not For Sale

This one is hanging on my wall. I loved this old gas station that was on  side road in Mayfield NY. An old gas station converted to a residence - the old gas sign still hung off the front of the building. Took photos of it one fall, with the large red-leafed maple casting shadows across the simple road. To paint this, I took parts from a few of the photos to put together & capture the scene how I wanted.

Unfortunately, this building recently suffered a severe fire & the gas station was lost. The building is now gone - I don't know what became of the sign. Things like that have a funny way of turning up years later at a yard sale. I will keep my eyes open!

Love this! The fabulous shadows in fabulous colors! No wonder you kept this one for yourself!!

Love how you have a hint of the reds blending into the shadows, which are lovely, btw. Nice composition and interesting backstory, Nan.

Such a beautiful piece, Nancie! I can imagine that growing up here would have been a blast, so much nature surrounding the place, the smells of old gas and oil...cuffing through the dirt/gravel yard and the lazy drone of summer... Just sublime.
