Bermuda High

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

I have had this image for a very long time, and have had every intention to paint it. The pinks & reds were just too compelling to ignore. I believe this was an image from Google street views, and I definitely remember that this is in bermuda.

When I was a teenager, we lived in a pink house. Pink, aluminum siding - it stood out among all the other houses in the neighborhood. Rumor (or would it be a legend) had it that the house was one of the first houses in the area to get aluminum siding, and that the color could not be chosen. That pink was the only color it could be! It made it easy to give directions, "just go to so-and-so street, make a left and it's the pink house on the right. You can't miss it!." Of course, to a teenager, it was embarrassing!

That was many years ago, and the house still stands with the same siding. But the newest owners had it painted to a very dull, brownish-pink - and it no longer stands out on the street. Maybe they were a bit embarrassed themselves!

Somehow I think a pink house is much easier to live with, when you live in a place like Bermuda!
