Tulip

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

Done as the submission for this month's Paint & Draw challenge - and also submitted to the DPW challenge this week for Easter - this violet tulip was a photo posted by Lela at PADT. The original photo shows the gorgeous tulip against a dark background - all with back lighting.  But I saw the colors in the background and I wanted to make them explode behind the tulip.

It's funny how the digital camera finds the edges of the colors so much more than the human eye sees them. For instance, the purple within the red on the right side of the background - it is not near as pronounced in real life, at least to my eye, but the camera saw it distinctly.

I agree on the camera, I often have to look at my paintings on the computer to really 'see' them :-) Gorgeous tulip Nan, love the color and the blurred background!

The background is indeed rich and lovely, Nan. It works to make the tulip itself look exceptionally rich and beautiful!

This is beautiful Nan. I really like the rich colors you chose for the background. It makes the flower pop but also gives a lot of interest to the background.
