One of my favorites, this is a closeup of the very heart of a poppy. I loved the contrast between the center and the petals and wanted the closeup to expound on that. In addition, I used various reds & oranges to indicate the petals - with the color changes making them appear almost translucent.
I have always had a fondness for closeups, especially of flowers. It reminds me of being a child & walking among the flowers in my grandfathers garden. He would pick single flowers for me to hold & explain each one to me. I would take the flower & hold it close to my eye to "see" all that he was saying. I do believe he taught not only about the flowers, but he also taught the love of gardening. And though he's been gone for 47 years, he is still with me whenever I am out in my garden. I can never look at a Pansy without smiling, or stare closely at the center of a flower without a sense of wonder!

This could also be a raging inferno with nothing left to burn in the center...A really cool effect when you realize it is actually a poppy and its center. Amazing work, Nan!
Very powerful work, one of my favorites, too. Amazing red, so full with passion and energy.
The wonder of the color red - it really does have so much power. And Sherry, it does resemble an inferno now that you mention it. Closeups can do that - give the viewer something different to see!
