This is sort of one of those paintings that paints itself (almost). I mean, I decide what I want, and then it happens - with very little (if any) reworks. I think one of the reasons for this is that I recently bought a tube of Naples yellow - a color I haven't really worked with before. However, I'm now infatuated with it, and am working it into some of my work lately. In this, it handles the grassland within the middle and the trees/shrubs that are standing upright on the left side in this. Naples Yellow has a wonderful consistency and it let me mix & work with it so easily. My new friend, Naples Yellow!

Absolutely breathtaking, Nancie! Gorgeous, in fact!
Nice work on the mountains, with the warmer prairie and trees in the foreground - I am reminded of eastern Oregon.
I like your new friend. I will have to try it someday.
Hi Nan - thank you for the comment on my blog - and back at you! I noticed this painting as I was scrolling through the VP blog - I love the line of trees in the front. The whole painting is lovely. Going to try Naples Yellow one of these days.
This is beautiful Nancie. I really like the sense of aerial perspective you've achieved with the mountains and the colors are really nice.
I think Naples Yellow is a great color in oil and acrylic but it's a little too opaque for me in the watercolors.
While scrolling VP your painting caught my eye. Nice work.
Thank you all for your kind comments. Glad everyone likes this one, I had a lot of fun painting it. As far as Naples yellow goes, the acrylic I bought has a somewhat buttery texture. Fun to work with - not too transparent, not too thick. But I'm making sure not to overdo my usage with it - my next painting does not have any in it! LOL! Thanks again
I like this piece very much! Very inspiring and full of movement for me.
