Red Flowers by the Lilac Curtain

This was done for the Wet Canvas Acrylic challenge for this month. This challenge has a reveal date of the 20th, but I was able to finish this earlier and will hold it to post on that date. However, I thought I would post it on my blog now, since it is done ahead of schedule. I am working hard this month at handling deadlines better. I did include the link to the website where you can see the original reference photo - the other submissions will be on the same link after the 20th of the month.

The reference photo was an indoor shot of a room. My eye instantly went to the red flowers & I wanted to make them stand out. But I loved the glimpse of the outside world through the glass behind them and the way the curtains frame that opening (along with the wall and woodwork on the left). The original has the drapes a beige color, as well as the wall. I wanted something with a bit more color to it and also didn't want it to compete with the red flowers. Lilac proved to be a good tone to put in as it didn't compete at all and I think it gave the room a softer feel.

Nice crop of the original photo, Nancie. I love how you've redecorated too! LOL Truly a lovely piece with a sense of it being watercolors and not acrylics. Well done!
