This was done for the Monthly Painting Challenge. I became fascinated by the lines in this photo, particularly on the stairs and the railing. I also saw the light & shadows as they bounced off the wall and the stairs.

I chose to do a more monochromatic color scheme, with various values of brown and yellow ochre. I liked the warmth it added to the image - and felt it made it 'inviting' to go up the stairs. I think I would like to do another version of this same image, only in a cool monochromatic color scheme - sort of a blue tint to the grays. I think it would make the stairs less inviting, and I may just do this second version for a comparison.

Great work of art. Usually I am confused with the photos in this challenge, the composition makes me nervous. Now I see how brilliant the artist can turn the photo into painting.
Happy Holidays to you!

I like the way you transformed a cumbersome photo into a wonderful abstract artwork. I like your palette also. Very nice, Nancy!

BTW, have you submitted this as I haven't seen it on the Monthly Challenge blog.

Thank you all. I appreciate your kind words, and I also wonder what is up there!

Jean - I did submit this to the blog at the same time that I posted this. Last month, my submission on that particular blog didn't show up until the last day of the month. Must be the holiday season! Thanks for the reminder though.
