Ella (Nunzio) - SOLD

UPDATE: this cute pooch's name is Ella!

This is Jennifer Peters dog, who is my pooch portrait partner in the Windows to the Words dog exchange. I don't actually know her dog's name (wish I did).

I am an dog lover - no other way to describe it, I just love dogs. I own a long-haired daschund that I just adore - my best buddy. So when James over at WTTW announced the dog exchange, I was at first, excited. Then I became very apprehensive. I mean, my skills are not the greatest - I am not an accomplished artist. So what makes me think that I can paint someone's "best buddy!" (Painting peoples children & pets is a very scary thing!)

I hesitated for a few days, perhaps a week. When I started to see other paintings of dogs being posted I decided I would regret not sending in mine. So I did - and sure enough, a day or 2 later I got the email from James "here is your pooch portrait photo." I thought, oh boy, here it is. I bet I got something wild, and fluffy - or large with lots of detail. When I opened his attachment, I just smiled. I mean, look at that face!!!

But then I realized I don't know enough about the breed to really understand their personality. Luckily, a new neighbor moved into my neighborhood recently and she has one of these dogs (bulldog, is it not?). So I paid them a visit. Her dog's name is Nunzio and he was just a lovable boy. Plopped himself down at my feet, rolled over and expected his belly scratched. Ok, "friendly" was my first clue to the personality. Then day by day, I watched her walk him. Ok, "stubborn" is also on the list, as is "strong." And I also saw the Iams dog food commercial with this breed. The dog is talking, walking proudly, and saying that his vet calls him "the eighth wonder of the world." Ok, add "proud" to the list.

And so, here is Jennifer Peter's dog. He (she?) is friendly, stubborn, strong & proud - well, at least that is what I perceive the dog to be. And I bet he (she) is her best buddy as well! I only hope I did her dog's image justice and that she likes the outcome.

This breed is a charmer, or at least my own was. You've captured her dog beautifully, Mary. And now I miss my Howie (my own bulldog).

You have such a way with story telling! I love this story and it is truly a great painting. It is evident in your painting that you enjoyed every brush stroke and wanted to express the personality of that little dog.
