Denver's Sakura Square - SOLD

The Studio Atelier challenges are always a bit different than some of the others. This is the second one I've done for them that was a busy scene. I love the busy scenes and I love to paint a piece of life that is in action. No one is posed and no one is facing the camera, which is good. That would make it more of a portrait, and that is a totally different challenge for me! I did take a smaller slice of the photo for my painting and tried to focus on the shapes and colors.

This actually took a bit longer to do than I thought it would, but there are numerous shapes and many different color shifts. But those red umbrellas - those are what captured my attention in the first place so they had to be in the painting and be prominent.

Acrylic on 9 x 12 canvas

Nancie, this is fabulous. I always admire artists that brave the busier scenes or even city scenes. I think they simply overwhelm me! You have done this so well! I like that the people are all facing away, going into the painting.
