Lemons with Glass and Pitcher

This was done for the Photo Challenge on the Artist Network website. If you haven't been over to it (click the link) it is an interesting group of artists that work from user-supplied photos as references. The subjects can be quite varied.

For this image, I chose to paint it in the abstract mode - I am liking this abstract mode more and more, especially for still lifes. The reference photo had a few very dark areas in the background, which may have been tree trunks or perhaps wood slats from a porch. I chose to eliminate them as I thought they distracted from the scene. Working the reflections in the glass & pitcher was quite interesting and this painting makes me want to try more glass & liquid paintings as they are quite the challenge.

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet.

I love this Nancie. Your style is beautiful and I think leaving the tree trunks out was a good call.

This is stunning. I love the abstract feel but all the details still lingering in there! This makes me thirsty and longing for the backyard....Superb.

It turned out great! You really pulled off the look of glass. Love it!

Très belle harmonie de couleurs. Ces bleus et verts me font vibrer... et me rafraîchissent... toutefois un petit verre en cette chaleur d'été ne serait pas de refus!

I love the color scheme, and the grass through the glass. Isn't that a beer pitcher?

What a cool and refreshing painting! Gorgeous palette and I like that it isn't too abstract. I rather find myself wishing I was sitting at that table enjoying the shade and cool water...

Thank you everyone. I enjoyed doing this painting. I think the blues & greens inspired me a bit, plus the fact that we are in the midst of a heat wave! I wanted to depict a cool place to relax in, and I knew those colors would enhance that feeling. And yes Barbara, that is a beer pitcher. (Probably if I had left the name off of the pitcher it wouldn't be so noticable). It was in the ref photo and I like the blues in the letters - thought it would add to the feeling of cool - LOL! Thanks again.
