Recently done for a challenge in the Paint and Draw Together Blog, the theme on this challenge was textures. I love the photo of the strawberry sitting next to the single stem of what was once a strawberry. The items are sitting on bark, which is the added textures to the image. The challenge was to (a) paint the image and it's textures and (b) give it a unique name - hence "With and Without."
I have noticed that as I paint more, I am developing a more "painterly" style than I once had. Where my goal in the past was towards realism, I now seem to be more shape and abstract driven. Not that it's a bad thing, it's just different. Not sure where this all will lead to (stylewise), but I am having fun.

I am all about strawberries right now! Just bought me a WHOLE bunch of these at the farmers market - YUM. This painting is yummy too. I am so glad you introduced this blog challenge - I am going to attempt to paint one myself. Thank you.
Margaret - I bet those strawberries taste terrific too. June is their season (at least around by me). I had some this morning for breakfast myself. Glad I could steer you to a new challenge - enjoy (both the challenge & the strawberries!!)
Nancie, I just want the strawberries myself! Love the look of the bark that they are sitting on too. Well done!
Nicely done Nancie.
Thanks Sherry & Nancy. I ate the 2nd strawberry this morning! LOL!
I am trying to get away from such stark realism that I always seem to paint. I just can't seem to let go of the details! I love your work and the way your abstracts still maintain some details. Very well done.
Thanks Paula. I understand your plight with details, it is mine too. I'm starting to bridge abstract & details, so I don't do too much of one or the other. Not sure where this is taking me, but it is a new style/path.
