VPO - Hawaii - "Standing Tall"

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This months Virtual Paintout is in Hawaii. I have never been, but hopefully I will get there one day. I thought of doing a beach scene, since Hawaii is known for it's beaches - and I may do one yet, but first I wanted to focus on their lush greenery. And of course, palms. I was amazed by the large, straight, tall trees that I found everywhere. I saw this scene and decided to paint it - I liked the perspective and colors.

Again I did a combination of abstract shapes with only a bit of detail added in the foreground palms.

This is truly beautiful, Nancie! This is reminiscent of a descriptive passage I read in a book once, which was of course set in Hawaii. Lovely!

The leaves in the front are so luscious and the spiky evergreens in the back are wonderful. You really captured the light and the sky is spot on.

What a beautiful variety of greens you've achieved. Also, your clouds look very wispy-wonderful painting.

This painting is so nice and light. I love the individual leaves in the front they make you want to take a closer look.

Nancie, This is a great composition. The pattern created by the tall trees is quite intriguing. They look neat against your interesting sky. Love the lush low foliage in the fg w/just hints of detail. And, love how the road has a turn off directing us back oh so subtlely to the center of interest. Good job.

Thank you all for your kind words. This is actually one of my favorites I've done of late - the tall trees, the cloud formations & the foreground foliage with subtle details. Thank you Ruth, but I think I need to credit Mother Nature with the composition. Although I did need to look past the telephone poles & countless electrical wires to see this one. Boy, for a place that's called a "tropical paradise" it sure has a lot of overhead wires! (not as bad as San Francisco was, but still, alot of wires!)
