Bottles

This months challenge on Windows to the Words is "Reflections" with 4 photos to choose from. I saw these bottles and I knew I had to paint them. Painting glass has always intrigued me and to paint this many different colored glass bottles with light spots and reflections was just too tempting.

For this I went back to doing more realism than abstract, but again, I just painted the shapes & values I saw. (Actually, I think it's both abstract & realism - a combination.)

When I was done, I stepped back and the shapes became a series of bottles, with light and shadows. It never ceases to amaze me.

Just an exquisite composition for this gorgeous still life, Nancie. I love this piece!

Oh, man. These bottles are really well done! At least in my artist's mind, a perfect balance of realism and abstract. Great shine and shadows. I haven't ever tried painting glass before. Too chicken....Maybe I should try?

Thank you both. I can't take credit for the composition, as I did follow the photograph's design on this one. I really wanted to play with the lighting & shadows on this one, and thought that in keeping all the bottles intact, that I would have more to "play" with.

Paula - don't be chicken. Try painting glass, it's actually quite interesting. It's really just shapes & values. Maybe do only 3 bottles (magic #3) so you can play with the light.

Well Done. You captured the feeling of glass and made this so interesting.

Nancie, this is just great. I am so sorry I didn't get your E-Mail and get this posted sooner. I checked out my GMail and I have no idea what happened....but it has happened once before. Thanks so much for your participation.
