Plum Blossoms

Well, the 25th of this month was the reveal date for the Wet Canvas Floral challenge called Plant Parade. (Although many posted early - me too. Those in Australia, Europe, etc. were already on the 25th when, in the states, we were still the 24th. But once one posts, everyone does! The 25th is the earliest we can post, but you have til the final day of the month as the deadline to add your work).

This months theme was flowering trees and shrubs, with plenty of references posted. I went into their reference library and found this wonderful image uploaded by William Gunther (thank you much for your photo reference). This months host on the challenge, Agnes, asked that we include twigs and branches with our paintings & not just the flowers - therefore this image seemed perfect for me. Lots of branches & leaves, plenty of flowers with shadows & highlights, and a background area that I could blend to my hearts content (I love making diffused backgrounds with florals).

Just a truly gorgeous piece, Nancie. I so love the green background and those plums and whites just jump from the page.

Hi Nancie, Aren't challenges so fun. I love the dark jewel of the grren against the purples with splashes of red. Lovely Painting.

You did a great job with this painting. I especially love the buds and leaves. Adding the stems gives much for weight to a floral painting. The deep tones and blendy background make this painting look like velvet! Very rich and textural.

Thank you all for your kind words. I just love doing those blurred backgrounds in contrasting colors - makes the flowers pop!
