Pink Poppies -- SOLD

Did this recently for the May Floral challenge on Wet Canvas website. This month the subject is the poppy flower and we were given some wonderful references to paint from. We also have the option of painting from life or from our own photos. But I have never been able to get these sun-loving flowers to bloom in my yard - there is just too much shade for them.

Poppies come in a wide variety of colors, with the reds being (I think) the most common. I chose this reference since it is not the normal red - my color is probably more pinkish than the reference photo, but I loved the color I got while mixing & chose to go with it.

The reveal date for this challenge is the 25th of the month, which is about 1-1/2 hours from now. Only those in earlier time zones have posted already - but I'm sure by this time tomorrow, there will be many renditions uploaded. Wander over to see them - many talented artists are in this group.

Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet

This second painting done for the same challenge is my abstract version of a cluster of poppies. I enjoy these abstract renditions - spending more time on shapes & color than on details. It's a nice change for me, as I tend to focus so much on the details.

This is also Acrylic on 9x12 canvas sheet

Belle interprétation pour ces coquelicots...

I really like them both. You've really captured that fragile, papery feeling of the petals in the top one.

I've always been a detail lover myself, Nancie, but either way, both of these pieces are a resounding success and quite beautiful!!

Thank you all. As you know, painting flowers is one of my loves. They always give me a wonderful color palette to work with.
