Tall Pine Tree

Here is something a bit out of the norm for me. I started this about a week ago, and have been working with it on-and-off. It's taken from a photo I took of some tall pine trees that we have at the upstate house. I chose the "looking up from the base" perspective to help emphasize their size. This is not done, and I will probably post this again when I've done some more work/changes to it. I got some very good feedback regarding changes, such as enlarging the bark & detail of the tree at the base, where it would be closer to me. So I'm working on that area now (fingers crossed that I don't ruin it as I change it). But that is the beauty of acrylics, if you don't like what you've done just wait till it dries & paint over it. This is also much larger than I'm use to working on, again, done on purpose to emphasize the size & perspective. But it does give me more challenges on brush stroke sizes & values.

I think this point of view is exquisite, Nancie. The colors are phenomenal. I am reminded of a trip through the California redwoods when my daughters were young; we were en route to Disneyland. We of course had to stop so we could see the redwoods, drive through the tree, etc. I am a tree lover! Anyway, I remember looking up at their great height, much the same perspective as this piece. With the bright blue of the Cali skies in the spring, this could be right out of my trip!
