Toss It!

"Toss It!"
9x12 acrylic on canvas board
Not For Sale

This is Stanley, and he was a commissioned piece I recently did. It was a gift for someone & I held off posting it until the gift was given. I had some challenges with the dogs hair on this one - and I say hair since this is a poodle and poodle's have hair, not fur. Which is why the breed is so popular with those who want to limit allergy problems.

The "black" in the hair was mixed with grey as this photo is from the dog in his later years (I understand that Stanley passed away 2 years ago, and the painting was a gift for someone of their good friend that they miss). I didn't want the dog to be strictly black & grey, so I introduced a bit of blue into the grey to make a silvery look. I also added some of the table colors to the top area of the head just to help tie the painting all together.

And, of course, there is the Kong ball. Apparently Stanley loved to play fetch and he would stare at the ball just waiting for it to be tossed.

I'm very honored to paint these "best friends" that have crossed the bridge to the other side - and to create a visual image that gives their owners a fond memory, and a smile.

There is still time to commission a pet portrait for holiday gift giving! Contact me to discuss - I do dogs as well as cats, birds, reptiles, etc.

This is awesome, Nancie. I know the recipient will be over the moon with their precious reminder of Stanley.

I love this painting Nan. Anyone that has a dog has seen that look when a ball is visible. You've really captured that intense doggie focus perfectly.

Thank you Sherry & Nancy. I loved painting this because I do know that doggie look!
