This is another in my series of "1934 Oradell Houses." I have decided to paint more from these wonderful black-and-white photos. This particular one caught my eye because of the signage on the side of the building. Here is a link to the original photo. Painted signs on sides of brick buildings was fairly common during that time - and there are buildings in my neighborhood that still have the faint outline of some of the letters.

Artist Note:
I am currently preparing my pieces for this years Art in the Park show which is in early October. I've decided this year to focus on architectural paintings, since it's something I so fond of doing. Some of the paintings I did last year will be included (the Mansion, Carriage House, Round Porch & Blue Striped Awnings to name a few). But I am also planning on some new ones - and this is one of the them. I plan on doing a castle also! Lot's to paint!
I am also going to sell prints of some of my pieces. An assortment of 8x10 matted prints will be available at the show also. Again, lots to do! I ordered a batch of show-kits (mat, backboard & clear bag) online & will be busy printing and packaging. I know I have time until the Oct 11th show date, but I hate to wait on these things. I so often run out of time & then stress as I scramble to pull things together!

Its really beautiful. Your display at the art show will be a favorite, I'm certain. Have fun!
As you might imagine, there are numerous buildings throughout Illinois that also bear the ghostly remnants of painted advertising and signs on the old buildings. I too love them. This piece is wonderful and that cursive script in perspective is masterful!
Thank you Sherry - I've been trying to leave a comment or post on your new blog & they are coming back to me from saying it was not accepted for policy reasons (I don't understand these error messages that blogger sends out, very confusing) leavesofcrimson @ att.net -- is that correct?
