Intangible Night

"Intangible Night"
8x10 acrylic on stretched canvas
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This month the ACG's challenge theme is "intangible."  I thought about the word intangible for a while - looking it up, it has this definition:

not tangible; incapable of being perceived by the sense of touch, as incorporeal or immaterial things; impalpable

Don't you love definitions that start with the opposite of the word you are looking up? The definition of intangible is "not tangible" - so I bet if I look up tangible it tells me is it "not intangible!" I always hated that as a child - I would have to look up word after word to try & figure out the meaning of the first word. But this definition goes on to say it means it can't be perceived by the sense of touch. I thought of all types of things that fall under that - emotions, feelings, ideas, thoughts & even ghosts.

But recently, the full moon occurred and I've been wanting to try a painting on a black primed canvas for some time now. This seemed like a perfect chance. Intangible night with a full buck moon! This painting is done with only Prussian Blue, Cobalt Blue & Titanium white. I thought against adding any other color to the moon - I liked how it stood out so strongly amongst the clouds.

I love how this worked out & am thinking of doing a much larger version. I do have another smaller black canvas  - I may work something up with that one first.

Such a "tangible" feel to the clouds, as if another land. Gorgeous colors and beautiful interpretation of the night sky, Nancie.
