Infinite Sky

"Infinite Sky"
9x12 acrylic on stretched canvas
Available through DPW gallery/auction

Did you ever fly at night, and sit by the window, and stare out at the infinite sky? It's an awesome sight - something so very unique. That is the look that I tried to create in this painting.

I worked on this today while I was at the art gallery. I had the extra black canvas from the "Intangible" painting I did earlier this week, so I thought I would do another sky painting. Again I worked with a limited palette of Titanium White & Prussian Blue. But instead of adding in the Cobalt Blue, I chose to add a bit of Ceruleum Blue instead. (I thought the cobalt was a bit too bold - this time I wanted it a bit softer, but still blue). I also wanted a partial moon, rather than the full moon. Thought it would create a glow on the one side, and also to the clouds, but still give the feeling that the clouds were simply floating in the air. I hope I was able to capture that image

Artists Note:

For the past few days, the television has been full of the news on Malaysia Airlines flight #17. It is an awful moment in world history, when hatred & anger from the earth can reach out & destroy something in the heavens. I hope the people onboard flight 17 were able to see the infinite sky with wonder before their lives were cut short. May they rest in peace now, and fly among the stars with freedom. I dedicate this painting to them.

Truly gorgeous night painting and I love how you handled the moon. I agree with you on the Malaysian Airlines thing. We're on a slippery downward slope here. Makes me wonder what really happened with the first downed Malaysian aircraft...
