Penny Lane

"Penny Lane"
6x12 acrylic on canvas panel
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This month's VPO visits Liverpool England. And I when I hear Liverpool, one thing pops into my mind immediately - the Beatles. So I roamed the Liverpool area as I wanted something that spoke the Beatles to me. I checked Abby Road (which I may revisit), Strawberry Fields and assorted other locales.

It was this corner Fish & Chips store that caught my eye. Here is the link on the Google maps

I happen to love corner buildings with their doorways in the corner, and this one had the words Penny Lane on both sides! The original image, you will see, has a cast shadow on the building from a building across the street. But it looks odd to me, especially with this narrow crop. So I altered the light & shadow so it showed one side of the building in light - the other in shadow.

I like this one!

Bonjour ma chère amie,
J'aime particulièrement le contraste de la lumière et de l'ombre... Votre palette est généreuse.
Très joli travail.
Gros bisous

Oh I do love this one, Nancie! Perfect piece for the challenge and I too think of the Beatles when I hear Liverpool. I also think of a best friend I used to have (we've lost touch due to military moves) and loved dearly. She was from Liverpool.
