Reflections - SOLD

"Reflections"
9x12 acrylic on canvas panel
Available through DPW gallery/auction

Previously painted in early 2012,
this painting is now on a 1-week auction at DPW
at a very affordable starting bid!

This painting has 3 of my most favorite things to paint, and 3 of the most challenging items (I think) to render.

The title of this piece is the first of the items I love to work on - reflections. There are reflections not only in the bowl, but in the individual ornaments as well. Always interesting to work on - getting the angles moving in the right directions. Because reflections also distort a reflected image as it bends to conform to the shape of the object. The ornaments round shape distorts their reflections making them only shapes of color & light while the rounded bowl alters the lines of the doily.

Which brings up the second item I love to work on - crocheted items or lace. Love to try and capture the delicacy in the item. I wanted the doily in this to appear so "light" that if you reached out to pick it up, it would go limp in your hand. The doily acts as a base that is supporting the bowl, the ornaments and the beads that are spilling over out from the bowl.

The third item is the beads. Capturing the roundness of each bead and keeping their path & direction flowing smoothly - not to mention, getting the lights & darks correct -- these are all challenges with doing beads. This piece goes one step further, by having white beads on a white doily, reflected in the silver bowl.

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. It is also being added to Sea Dean's Art Party on her blog. Have you checked it out yet? Lots of holiday items being done & shown by a group of talented artists.
