Brick Walkway along the Canal

"Brick Walkway along the Canal"
9x12 acrylic on canvas panel
Available through DPW gallery/auction

This is my third (& final) submission to VPO's December challenge in Venice Italy. The original google view can be seen here.

I chose this scene because I like views that have a foreground & background that flow front to back. I wanted to enhance that view with this -- but I also wanted to liven the image up a bit by adding some more color. Actually, by adding a lot more color! So, besides the brick brown-red, I added in some regular red, some yellows, some lilacs, purples & blues into all the stonework. The water remained the green - likewise the green shrubs at the top foreground.

And look at those 2 women walking along! They probably take this path multiple times each week and pay it no mind. Isn't it amazing how we can get so use to our surroundings sometimes that we cease to "see" it? I know I can forget to look around in NYC sometimes, getting so lost in my own thoughts of they day.

Ah, but would that happen to me in Venice? I don't know, but I sure would love to be there & try and find out if it does!

It is indeed a beautiful walkway, Nancie. I'd love to walk that everyday myself!
