In late fall we can get an early snow dusting before the fall cleanup is complete. It may only be a dusting or an inch and those light coatings of snow melt quickly in the daylight, especially if the temps get above freezing - as they have been lately. And as it melts, it reveals the leaves, pine needles and pinecones that are beneath the snow.

Some days it only partially melts, leaving small clumps of frozen cold surrounding the warmer earth tones of the various items on the ground. I can remember being captivated as a child, spending what felt like forever, studying the snow - it's edges almost translucent. That is what I tried to capture here - the translucent edges.

I look at this and wonder how you do it, Nancie. All those needles and leaves and pine cones and it looks like a snapshot of the ground here in late autumn or early winter. Really beautiful!

Thanks Sherry, the ground looks that way also in my neck of the woods. Seasonal change can be so interesting visually.

Thank you Julie! I so admire your work, so your comment on my art goes right to my heart. You made my day!

I am a winter person. Both of these winter paintings catch my eye … so well done.

Thanks Nancy. I like painting winter - the white is always a challenge, and I love to try & capture those quiet scenes that snow can create!
