Front Porch Ferns - SOLD

Commissioned Piece - NFS
9x12 Acrylic on canvas panel

Isn't this home stately? Can't you just imagine walking up that driveway & seeing that house? I just love it - the colors, the position, the lamp post on the front lawn, that porch (oh I love porches), and the ferns hanging in the openings on the porch.

This home was not near as difficult as the previous one I just did, but it didn't paint itself either. I had to fuss with the yellow quite a bit, especially in the darker areas. And I toyed with the colors of the shutters & roof as well. The original photos from the homeowner showed the front light on & dusk setting in. I thought to paint it that way, but so much of the detail of the home is lost in that light. As I've said previously, these portraits are all about the home.

Another artist gave me a bit of insight that I love. He said a house is merely a building, but a home is where people live. I now refer to this as my Home Portrait project, rather than House Portraits - because I'm painting the homes & not just the buildings!

I just got another commission order, but this time it is for one of the older photos (1930s). Looking forward to that - they are so different than the homes of today!

Bonjour,
Je suis très heureuse de pousser aujourd'hui la porte de blog après mes longues semaines d'absence estivale et de découvrir cette merveilleuse peinture. Un véritablement ravissement. Je comprends pour quoi elle soit vendue !
Un très joli travail.
Gros bisous.

I too love the front porch with the hanging ferns. What a nice spot to sit and enjoy a nice evening, maybe with a glass of tea or a good book. I love your home paintings, Nancie.

This does have a very "Homey" feel to it. Good job Nan.
